Oftentimes it takes contemplating how Black folks lives have been defined for us throughout all times by people who were not Black. This truth cannot be denied no more than I can change the color of my skin nor allow myself to be categorized and lessened. Therefore, I must take this journey of discovery as all my valiant and resilient ancestors have sojourned in a world where false judgments were presented as the standard of righteousness. Righteousness added to humility with the grace of God may be the answer.
VOLUME 16: Can I just have some mustard and ketchup on my hotdog?
What happened to the days when Americans could choose what they ate? Why has the menu been reduced to highly processed meats? What about whole meats like whole chicken, steak or pork chops seasoned to the taste? Why am I taking you down memory lane? Here’s why?
I remember vividly the items on our vacations by car my father took us on. What did you eat! Easy there ‘pot’nuh’. What my mom and dad packed for us on these vacations was white bread with pork hotdogs. Now this was in the early 70’s when I was so poor I had holes in my clothes when holes in clothes hadn’t become a trend yet.
I’m going to leave it there. I heard that the Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson said if the Republicans hold the House and the Senate that things will keep going exactly like they’re going now. The rich living it up while the poor eats a fancy meal of hotdogs with mustard and ketchup if they can afford the condiments.
‘Why don’t you tell yourself whatever you want to tell yourself’ in that statement Americans?
Be well.
