Season 3:
Episode 4: Exile That Which Hinders
Make it ‘Sew-Wear’ (Sow-Where?)
Prologue:
(Mother Sayer broods over the many freedoms she has to think or focus on ‘whatever’ or whenever they appear in her mind. Free moments like watching the leaves and branches of a giant oak tree sway in the breeze. How it seems possible that there are magnificent trees that line a preset corridor in the Appalachians Mountains regions. How close they are to each other. How far they travel and where they choose to call home. Is that by design or a desire to be next to one another? Choices by the trees. The scenic beauty can only be grasped and translated by the soul. The soul understands the connection. The oak trees do their part. Mother thinks of the joy that the giant oaks must have towards an ‘acorn’ finding a spot on ‘their’ given ground amongst the ‘elders’. A patch of ground, not too close, not too far, but just enough to not always be asking for ‘nurture’. Too much nurture can hinder.
Mother Sayer looks at Sarah W. Certainty with that same care. She knows her mother and father raised her to be strong with the roots and sturdy bark of a great oak. This thought is what Mother Sayer is smiling about. Maybe smiling isn’t the right expressive description of her gaze towards Sarah. Mother believes in her heart Sarah has that same ‘covering’ that she has. Mother says Sarah will not be ‘uncovered’. (If you dare to know what ‘covering’ Mother is referring, please turn your attention to Isaiah 28:20 in the Authorized King James version of the Holy Bible. I suggest you don’t read the full chapter. If you do, I apologize if it startles you.).
To be uncovered is to be left to the devices of the ‘unjust’ Mother Sayer believes. Mother Sayer was covered by her father. She will ‘cover’ all those in her charge until the time they can cover themselves and maybe just ‘one’ more. (Understanding what ‘being covered’ means will come as you stay with me.). That gift the First Father only bestows to very few people. People the First Father knows will look to ‘nourish’ the oaks he needs to ‘assure the ground and clean the air’.
The ground where the oak tree stands is solidified, but the impact an oak tree has on all living things, to include the Earth, by cleaning the air is felt and carried to all lands close at hand and distant. Sarah’s media idea will do that and more. The ‘OAK TREES’ said, ‘The wind and the rain, will not erase my grounded stain. I have treaded a path. The ground held me down and listened whilst I made no sound.
The weight. As I grew and spread the ground I did. I would not cry or say ‘too much now, stop growing’. I moved and I was covered to discover my purpose. When peace kept me still as I set my will. How great a depth I sank to drink cool waters beneath my feet. How tall I reached to cool under my shade many beasts on the floor and climbers of my trunk. I offered the ‘wind riders’ rest upon my branches. My strength is well known where I stand. My purpose is to care for beast, bird and man.).
————How Sarah grew into the woman she is————–
(What follows is the day Mother Sayer set aside for Sarah to make her ‘pitch’ to her. What Mother heard Sarah say just overloaded her expectations of what her daughter could dream of. Let’s see and hear what was brought to life that day….).
Mother Sayer: (It is an overcast day with the weather forecast calling for light rain around noon. The anticipation grows within Mother’s stomach. She hasn’t felt this way since the days of her ‘Time Trials’ with her father. Mother thinks, ‘I just want to give Sarah my support’. Be positive, but not fake. Okay, got it.). Hello Sarah. Give me a few minutes and we’ll get started. I don’t have anything scheduled but what you asked me here for.
Sarah W. Certainty: Hello and thank you Mother. I’ve got all the pieces together. I may need one of your ‘joiners’ to keep it all organized for me.
Mother Sayer: No problem. Knowing you, who is coming to assist you in your presentation?
Sarah W. Certainty: Uoherbhai. I figured I needed to help her out of her shell. She’s quite capable, but she’s introverted. Likes to work with very few people. Makes her nervous. Other than those perceived drawbacks about her which lesser people would certainly refuse to give her more critical taskings. I’m not ‘corporate America’ jaded enough to miss the forest.
Mother Sayer: Bet not be, or I’ll ‘wring-your-neck’ daughter.
Sarah W. Certainty: Don’t make me laugh now. I want to give you a good show. I’m not some daughter of yours that wasn’t shown the ropes. I know how you treated me. Thank you for that. Now shall we begin?
Mother Sayer: (Mother watches Sarah open the door to her office. Walk out and hold Uoherbhai’s hand where she’s sitting and tell her what’s about to happen. Uoherbhai collects a writing tablet, a computer tablet, coffee and a video recording device.). I see you’re being thorough?
Sarah W. Certainty: Can’t be too confident. Something might be said in here that got lost in translation or missed in the telling. This will be a short presentation for you Mother, but trust me, the details are extensive.
Mother Sayer: Okay. You may begin.
Sarah W. Certainty: Cucire – Indossare, in English, ‘Sew-Wear’. With the onset of video and social media platforms I can bring my creation to life. Fashion Mother. The tag line underneath the header will read, ‘Relate’ in Italian ‘Relazionare’. My focus will be on giving clothing, jewelry, footwear, and clothing outfitters a place to bring their ideas out of the ‘energy’ that is in their body and souls.
Mother Sayer: Wait. Wait. Back up. A little at a time. I already feel your ‘energy’ Sarah. I’m trying to maintain my balance. What is your first step?
Sarah W. Certainty: I need funding to reach out to all of these creators. I want to go on radio first. I will then go on internet radio. I want to canvas universities that have fashion and design majors. Once I acquire a few leads; I want to take a look at what they got going on.
Mother Sayer: That’s correct so far. You probably want to recruit some artists, drawers that can sketch images on paper. Have a few of them locked down under contract.
Sarah W. Certainty: Right. The first or around the first acts would be to bring to life something on paper. Something that can give me an idea what talents they possess. The most important thing I never want to lose sight of is to have tons of content. Designs. I will record every piece of the process. The creative process. I want speaking coaches. Drama coaches. I want to know if they can stand to be in front of video recorders. Audio recorders. I want vocal coaches. Language teachers, readers and speakers that can clean up their verbiage skills and sound like the places we want to go.
Mother Sayer: You want them to be as polished as they can be right out the gate?
Sarah W. Certainty: Hit the ground running is the ‘jargon’ right? I also don’t want anyone trying to replicate what I do too soon after my launch.
Mother Sayer: Well, for that you might want to keep an ‘asset’ in the loop. Just in case somebody tries to muscle in on the action.
Sarah W. Certainty: My father you mean?
Mother Sayer: Yes I do. Huh? My goodness that was quick.
Sarah W. Certainty: I’m not against the idea, but what about exposure to criminal activity? I mean me. I’m not looking for trouble with the law.
Mother Sayer: I know. Let’s get it straight right now though. You know what I thought I could do without my father and what happened. Women Sarah, let’s face it. We’re not thought of as being able to protect ourselves. Now, I did my time in the Army. I can protect myself no doubt, but it is different out here. Sometimes the battlefield, per se, is not as clean as you want it to be.
Sarah W. Certainty: Yeah. You knew the enemy. Some in uniform and some not wearing a uniform in Iraq. Most of the time the battles in business mostly don’t wear ‘uniforms’. The enemy wears all kinds and styles of clothing and the rules should be civil. Mostly.
Mother Sayer: That’s right. Saying that. Your father and mother and my father are more about that life than we are. It’s just a precaution. I mean I’m not asking that you have him around all the time. Like renting him office space is not what I have in mind.
Sarah W. Certainty: (Sarah chuckles). I got your meaning. Don’t exile him right?
Mother Sayer: You got it. So it’s settled? You’ll keep him informed about what you’re doing? We can work out the details like who do we need to source materials from and who we need to avoid.
Sarah W. Certainty: Yes. No goons of course.
Mother Sayer: No last name ‘Goon’. Right. (Mother chuckles.).
Sarah W. Certainty: What do you think of the name for the project? The store? Does it encompass all races and cultures?
Mother Sayer: Before I answer that. How about your Mother being a part of the mystique? She is a force. I mean her energy overpowered mine when I first met her you know that right?
Sarah W. Certainty: I kind of sensed it. When you let her tell you what’s going to happen.
Mother Sayer: Yes. I did take a step down to my elder. Her power was exhilarating. It was also the time for me to learn from her even though the interaction was short.
Sarah W. Certainty: Stop talking long enough and you’ll learn something right?
Mother Sayer: Exactly? Now the name you have chosen is interesting. There is deep meaning I’m guessing beyond those two words? ‘Sew-Wear’. I am getting some energy vibes telling me there is a ‘joint operating’ sense to why you chose to lock those two words together. Tell it like it is young lady.
Sarah W. Certainty: Relationships are relative to learning I’m sure you would agree? What a woman wears. What a man wears. What young people wear is crucial to how they feel about themselves right?
Mother Sayer: That’s right.
Sarah W. Certainty: I believe clothing should come to life. Enhance being. Age doesn’t matter. A ‘wearer’ knows what image they want to present. I believe the garment industry has never really respected the desires of the ‘sewer’ to help bring that feeling of putting on clothes you know ‘fit’ whatever style the wearer feels inside. It has never been granted for the glory of the ‘human’ body.
Mother Sayer: So, you want to ‘Zen’ out clothing?
Sarah W. Certainty: Frag out? No. Just a joke Mother. Now didn’t you tell me about the people General Tholodious had in his charge? Didn’t you tell me you felt their aura? The energy and strength they possessed. The feeling you got just by gazing at their appearance?
Mother Sayer: Yes I did.
Sarah W. Certainty: You told me they didn’t have one uniform clothing style, but many of them seem to dress according to their personality. That’s what you told me.
Mother Sayer: I said that as well.
Sarah W. Certainty: The way the General’s people talked and carried themselves and how their clothing didn’t impede their movements nor did they degrade their duties. They knew their clothing and you even said it was as if the clothing was designed for their specific duties.
Mother Sayer: Yes I did. I thought about what I had to wear in Iraq and how it never seemed to respond to my movements. Maybe the clothing got in the way of what I wanted to do. Even working against me. My Army uniform seems to just be ‘flapping’ along even as I got shot in the arm.
Sarah W. Certainty: That’s part of why I want to bond mind, soul and body in the clothing designers that are looking for somebody to take them seriously about the whole thing.
Mother Sayer: The whole thing?
Sarah W. Certainty: The ‘whole thing’ meaning the entire creative process of ‘outfitting’ customers one person at a time.
Mother Sayer: Sarah. That’s not how the clothing industry works. It is an assembly line model. You do know that right? How are you going to break through or break that mindset? Turn the industry to your will?
Sarah W. Certainty: By designers that believe in the complete ‘process’ of ‘dressing’ each person individually. If necessary, if it comes to a little muscle, I got no problem at all calling in my father to ‘crack’ a few skulls for me.
Mother Sayer: That’s the spirit. (They both laugh at her joke about violence). I must say. I am feeling it Sarah. The stirring inside. You got something there. Beyond just designing clothes and making money. I believe you got the potential to make people flock to you because you will ‘consult’ with your customers on how they want to present themselves.
Sarah W. Certainty: I want my designers and their advocates to talk to their customers about how ‘they’ like to be dressed. Not just come and grab something off the rack. Take it to the cashier and purchase it. Then after getting it home it doesn’t mesh with anything they have in their closet.
Mother Sayer: It should be interwoven into who they are both mentally and physically right?
Sarah W. Certainty: Yes.
Mother Sayer: Good. I want you to loop in our philosophical unit. Just choose one of them you think mirrors your thoughts and keep him or her on the team. Okay?
Sarah W. Certainty: Okay.
——————————————-Exiled No More——————————————–
(Mother and Sarah break for lunch and they let Uoherbhai as well, but Sarah tells ‘Uo’ that she will be working with her on the floor. To go and pack her things and she will show her to her new working area after lunch. Mother admonishes Sarah to keep everything secret and to make sure ‘Uo’ does the same. This isn’t about being selfish. This is about business.
People can steal from you in a second. All the creativity you and your team can put into something can be gone in an instant. It has everything to do with keeping corporate secrets corporate and inhouse. Mother tells Sarah this thing she created could be a defining moment that brings her and her team great success, praise and acclamation. It can also be ripped from you if you are not careful.
It is always a delicate thing to try and teach things on audio and television. The reasoning behind what you’re doing must come out very clearly, or the delivery will sound like you’re looking down on people. Nobody wants to be talked to like they’re stupid. No matter what a politician believes they have agency to do to their constituents.
Don’t worry Mother tells herself. Sarah has my ‘covering’ over her.).
Mother Sayer: I believe we should let the naming rights weight on us for a while. Let it flow through us. Let it internalize. Marinate. Other than letting the name sizzle. I believe you have something there. Tell me more about your outreach to people that don’t look like you. All the ‘races’ that is.
Sarah W. Certainty: Well, I thought I could talk to your people. You have quite the ensemble cast of characters here at the ARC. Maybe they could be like a focus group or something of the sort.
Mother Sayer: You know something. That’s not a bad idea. Sarah, you’ve been paying attention to how things get done around here. Before we continue, have you thought of how you will secure your ideas? Your creation has worth. Have you kept your intellectual property ideas close?
Sarah W. Certainty: If you mean have I shared my plans with anyone? No I have not.
Mother Sayer: Good. Listen to me now Sarah before you go on with your dreams. I want them to steadily come to fruition, but there must be some ground rules to follow to getting you there. I have only 3 that matter.
Sarah W. Certainty: Lay them on me sister.
Mother Sayer: Stop. Now who’s joking? Any who. First, ‘EXILE’ your mind from the details with everybody but us three. Uoherbhai, you are now Sarah’s first officer. We will figure an official title at another time. You are sworn to secrecy about everything you have seen, will see and what you heard here from today forward. Is that clear?
Uoherbhai: Yes Mother Sayer.
Mother Sayer: No one, not even your immediate family, friends, neighbors or anybody you want to tell about your promotion needs to zoom in on the shiny object hanging around your neck. Again, are we clear?
Uoherbhai: I’m to keep everything about the ‘Captain’s’ project to myself is that right?
Mother Sayer: Would you look at that? Someone else has been paying attention around here in the halls of the ‘ARC’ as well. Very good Uoherbhai. Not so introverted as I was led to believe you were.
Sarah W. Certainty: I made a good choice Mother. Did I not?
Mother Sayer: Yes you did Sarah. Uoherbhai (pronounced ‘Her Hi’ by Mother), we’re giving you a phone. Do you know what that means? (This is a common test that Mother gives to get a feel for the new wolf, or not, that she lets onto the plains to hunt for prey. Females do most of the hunting to feed the young Mother says, and this is a young company(whelp) that must be fed constantly to properly grow).
Uoherbhai: I appreciate you isolating me Mother. I work best that way. I will try to be more outgoing with the two of you.
Mother Sayer: That’s not why I believe Sarah chose you. (Mother looks at Sarah and knows she has manipulated the circumstances adeptly. Mother wishes she could be surprised).
Sarah W. Certainty: Uoherbhai will do just fine. May we continue? What are the 2nd and 3rd rules you have for me?
Mother Sayer: The 2nd rule is just as critical as the first. This idea of yours needs protection. Your father needs to be kept in the fold. He has contacts and the reach of knowing certain kinds of people in far more areas where money changes hands than I do. He could help you navigate where to source materials quicker.
Sarah W. Certainty: Are you serious? Mother? Wait, wait. (Sarah thinks for a minute, a long minute, then she speaks in broken English). I, this, we, what about Uoherbhai? She could be hurt? I don’t know. My father is not an easy man. I love him no matter what, but we have to involve him slowly? You know. Get up and running first.
Mother Sayer: Right right. We will play it by every brick we lay. Right after the foundation has ‘solidified’.
Sarah W. Certainty: Upon that rock we will build ‘Sew-Wear’ and the hands of thieves shall not break in to steal it.
Mother Sayer: Funny, but declarative. We will have what we say. Now are we clear on what we need to ‘exile’ and what we need to keep close?
Sarah W. Certainty: No. Tell me what you mean?
Mother Sayer: ‘Exile’ means there are a lot of things that you will not be able to enjoy as much as you have in the past. When you start a business venture or any kind of endeavor that needs a lot of your time and energy; you’re going to have to give up a lot of things you normally do all the time.
Sarah W. Certainty: Like going home at 6 p.m. every weekday. Having weekends off. Eating at my desk will be normal for a long time to come. That sort of thing?
Mother Sayer: Yeah. That sort of thing. However you frame it in your mind is up to you. I use the terminology that is akin to exiling things that are not needed to complete my tasking. It’s up to you, but make no mistake. If this is what you believe is needed, then focus on doing that. Make ‘Sew-Wear’ the standard in how people love to ‘dress’ themselves.
Sarah W. Certainty: Yes Mother. I will.
Mother Sayer: The 3rd thing is this. Take a notepad everywhere you go. Do not talk on the cellphone in open company meaning in the street or outside of this office space. Sarah, you are the gatekeeper. Now listen to me. This is important. It is all up to you. ‘Sew-Wear’ is your baby. Can you imagine what it takes to care for a baby?
Sarah W. Certainty: I will go with that analogy for now. Go ahead.
Mother Sayer: You have to protect ‘Sew-Wear’ from harm. You have to feed her. You have to give her what she needs to grow both mentally and physically. You have to decide what kind of person she will become.
Sarah W. Certainty: Oh my goodness. Do I have to wake up in the middle of the night to change her diaper?
Mother Sayer: If she is crying, metaphorically, yes. That’s what the notepad is for. If you don’t want to get up and write, then have a recording app on your phone or a recording device always by your side. Woke or sleep.
Sarah W. Certainty: Okay. That’s better. I’m beginning to get the idea.
Mother Sayer: Do you? Cause it is a dream you are trying to bring to life. Your dream is just waiting in the ‘energy’ vortex that is ever present around us all. ‘Dreams cometh through the multitude of business’. Something like that. What? You think our thoughts are inconsequential?
Sarah W. Certainty: I beginning to think they are not now.
Mother Sayer: Look. I know I speak sometimes with a nod to the ‘metaphysical’.
Sarah W. Certainty: Sometimes?
Mother Sayer: Okay. A lot of times. That’s why I want you to now focus on what you need to ‘EXILE’ from your life, your thoughts, and anything else that doesn’t matter. This is a critical time for you. You have decided to make your dream a ‘reality’. The best thing you got going for you is that I got you ‘covered’.
Sarah W. Certainty: Like you got my ‘back’.
Mother Sayer: Yeah like I got your ‘back’. Add to that your front, sides, all around, over your head and under your feet.
Sarah W. Certainty: That would ‘cover’ me entirely.
Mother Sayer: Don’t concern yourself with understanding me now. Just know that I know what it means to ‘cover’ somebody until they can come forth of their own abilities.
Sarah W. Certainty: Like helping a newborn baby to stand for the first time.
Mother Sayer: Yes Sarah. Just like that.
Epilogue:
(Mother Sayer believes more and more in why the ‘First Father’ gives everyone ‘time’ to achieve their purpose. Whether their purpose is good or evil. The First Father gives us all our time to do what we choose.
Sarah has chosen to sow her idea in a world that is filled with bountiful love and also bountiful hatred. Mother Sayer knows that there are others in the world that ‘cover’ others against such evil. Mother Sayer knows that the simple human will render an explanation that is good enough for the foolish people in the world. The people that are wise will know that it is sometimes necessary to sacrifice personal safety so that the ones with a righteous decree can have ‘time’ to fulfill their purpose.
Sarah has chosen an awesome task. To ‘SOW’ something good is powerful! Mother Sayer will make sure she will have the space, protection and the time to accomplish it. Just like her father Ableman Sayer did for her.).
